TV Media students do a lot more than just produce the morning announcements. This year, students from ACHS’s TV & Media Production classes placed in two major competitions -- SkillsUSA’s national Broadcast News Production competition and C-SPAN’s Studentcam documentary competition. On Monday, May 8, a ceremony honored the seven students who placed. Attendees included Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt and C-SPAN Director of Education Craig McAndrew. The event was emceed by senior Jacob Sanchez.

After Impact Award Win, Titan Robotics Whizzes to Worlds
For the second year in a row, Titan Robotics is heading to the FIRST Championship, the global competition for high school robotics teams. Titan Robotics, also called FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 5587, qualified for the April 19-22 competition in Houston, Texas after winning the prestigious Impact award at the Chesapeake District Championship in early April.

One Act Wonders
The ACHS Theatre Department held its annual One Act Play Festival Competition on January 6 and 7 in the auditorium. Five plays— Dinner with the MacGuffins; I’m Okay Now, Poppa; The S-Word; Just a Stage He’s Going Through; and Malaika Sings the Blues— were featured. Just a Stage He’s Going Through placed first and moved onto the District level.
