Every year, ACHS staff members nominate their peers in various categories for the ACPS VIP (Vision, Integrity & Passion) awards. Mario Yach, a member of ACHS custodian team, Mario Yach, won the award under the Building Engineers category for his diligent work— work that has kept the King Street building running.

2022 Athletic Hall of Fame
The annual Athletic Hall Of Fame ceremony took place in the Alexandria City High School auditorium on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm. ACHS held this ceremony to welcome the new additions to the Hall Of Fame and celebrate their achievements. ACHS focuses on honoring and showcasing the extraordinary talents of athletes, teams, and coaches through the Athletic Hall Of Fame ceremony.

City Starts Enforcing Parking Restrictions on Scroggins
On October 24, the city of Alexandria began enforcing parking restrictions on the 2000 block of Scroggins Road between Quincy Street and Lynn Court, a popular parking area for ACHS students. The changes restrict parking to two hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with exemptions for residents.

For hundreds of students at the Minnie Howard campus of ACHS, Student Support Services Coordinator Kevin McNutt is a friendly face they see every day. Greeting them at the entrance with a smile, McNutt asks them about their days. As the second quarter begins, changes to the schedule are still on their way. A new proposal has been given to the School Board by a passionate group of students who believe that the best way to support students is to provide them with a 74-minute block to do what is essential— starve and forget.

Empty Menstrual Product Dispensers Reveal Student Struggle for Product Access
In compliance with a 2022 Virginia policy, ACHS administration installed free menstrual product dispensers in women’s bathrooms at King Street Campus before the start of the school year. However, the dispensers were never filled, and they remain empty.

8 Students Recognized for National Merit Scholarship Accomplishments
Seven Commended Students and one Semifinalist were recognized with a ceremony on October 1 for their exceptional scores in the PSAT 10/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT), which they took last fall in their junior year along with students across the country.

‘It’s the Two of Them Together’: Chloe Wilmot, Milan Rex Honored for Smashing School Volleyball Records
Seniors Chloe Wilmot and Milan Rex were honored for breaking ACHS records for most assists and kills, respectively, in September and October. The ACHS volleyball team recognized both players with a speech, a bouquet of flowers and a ceremonial signed volleyball.
