    Knot Your Average Yarn Club

    The “Yarn Club” at Alexandria City High School is a welcoming, comfortable club that focuses on creating a friendly community for anyone who is interested in learning or already knows how to knit and crochet. This club is led by Senior co-presidents Deanna Kosinski and Lilliana Escobar whose goal is to bond with new people over a shared interest in knitting and crocheting.

    Students, Safety and the State of ACHS

    When the beep of the loudspeaker sounds in the middle of third period, the room falls silent. Eyes flash up as everyone holds their breath. Just over a year ago, during the morning of October 6, 2021, the PA system notified a building of 10-12th graders that the school was placed in lockdown. As the lights were turned off and blinds were pulled, the lockdown bled into lunch. Some teachers continued with their lessons. Phone screens lit up, and the words “an abundance of caution” flooded the thoughts of thousands of kids behind locked doors.     ‘We Want You For College’

    The fall college admissions process is a very stressful time for students and parents. In an effort to make this process easier, the ACHS College and Career Center has been inviting colleges and universities to come and talk to our students about their establishments. These visits expose students to new colleges as well as give students opportunities to learn more about ones they’re already familiar with.

    Community Leader Remembered

    On Thanksgiving Day 2022, at the annual Alexandria City Turkey Trot, late former mayor and ACHS (then- T.C. Williams) Athletic Director Kerry Donley was honored as his family served as Grand Marshals. Donley passed away unexpectedly in July of this year, and this event was just the latest effort to pay respect to this community leader.

    Lingua Latina Est Mortua

    “Three of the same or two of two:” we’ve all heard it— the dreaded language requirements needed to graduate. And students are not lacking in options: Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Latin. Most of these departments have multiple teachers, but the two smallest, Latin and Chinese, have only one.

    Photo Story: 2022 Fall Play

    The 2022 fall plays, One Slight Hitch by Lewis Black and Chicken and Biscuits by Douglas Lyons, premiered from November 11 to November 19 of 2022. The plays were executive directed by Leslie Jones and executive produced by Hope Bachman. The plays were student directed by junior Yahney-Marie Sangare and student stage managed by junior KD Bectel.     One Slight Hitch or One to Ditch?

    One Slight Hitch, the Titan Theater Department’s Fall Play, was performed this fall quarter. The play-comedy written by comedian Lewis Black tackled family relationships and internal conflict interwoven with political commentary about the American Dream.

    The Six Pathways of Governor’s Health Sciences Academy

    The Governor’s Health Science Academy (GHSA) at ACHS offers courses directed towards different medical career paths. The dual enrollment (DE) program offers six different pathways: Biomedical Informatics, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Sports Medicine and Surgical Technology. All ACHS students enrolled in the program are also enrolled at George Washington University, even though they take classes here.
