NOVA RAFT (Northern Virginia Resettling Afghan Families Together) is an organization that was started in August 2021 when the Taliban took over Afghanistan. This organization consists of former Afghan diplomats and military personnel, as well as local businesses and a network of mosques, synagogues, and churches that are dedicated to assisting newly arrived Afghan families.

Passionate teachers are hard to find these days, but Patrick Earle is one of the good ones! Mr. Earle is a multi-subject teacher at ACHS who creates a fun and engaging learning environment. He has a lot of environmental knowledge that he enjoys sharing with today’s youth.

Muslim Youth Union Offers Opportunities
There are many opportunities for students at Alexandria City High School to organize clubs and activities to demonstrate leadership skills. There are many religions represented at ACHS, but there is a large community of Muslim students, staff, and teachers.

Safe Space Club
The Safe Space Club is a new club that is led by juniors Casey Marsh and Noah Jennings. This is the club’s first year in action, and Marsh and Jennings have many ideas to promote it. Although ACHS offers a variety of counseling services for students, there aren’t as many places for students to confide in their peers. When you just want someone to talk to, speaking to an adult can be intimidating for some students, so Safe Space Club creates another outlet for them.

Spotlight: TV/Media Production
TV & Media Production is one of the many interactive classes we hold at our school. The class offers career skills for aspiring audio technicians, videographers, studio directors, and editors. Two teachers mentor the TV course: Benjamin Lyon and Vilma Zefran. Lyon is the photography teacher and teaches TV Media I. Zefran teaches T.V. Media II, III, and IV.

Salone Club is a new, emerging club that has made its way to ACHS. This club recognizes Sierra Leone, a country in West Africa, and its culture. Salone Club is a safe space for students to relax and meet new people at ACHS.

Knot Your Average Yarn Club
The “Yarn Club” at Alexandria City High School is a welcoming, comfortable club that focuses on creating a friendly community for anyone who is interested in learning or already knows how to knit and crochet. This club is led by Senior co-presidents Deanna Kosinski and Lilliana Escobar whose goal is to bond with new people over a shared interest in knitting and crocheting.
