April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. A group within Alexandria City’s Department of Community and Human Services called Peer Advocates partnered with the city of Alexandria to spread awareness. On April 18, 2023, the group placed blue pinwheels throughout the front yard of the school.

“The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention,” said a representative from Scan of Northern Virginia, the organizer of this event. “During National Child Abuse Prevention Month and all year long, we are proud to share this symbol of hope and commitment to the children of Northern Virginia.”

“It makes me feel good to be a part of a cause that is extremely important. I love to work and collaborate with my co-workers that share the passion for bringing awareness,” said senior Alayit Berhanu.
