Titans 4 Scholars (T4S) is a student-run organization of 12 juniors who create fundraisers to raise money to ensure that each ACHS student, regardless of socioeconomic background, has the opportunity to attend college. The program runs for seven weeks and plans to raise $12,000 for an ACHS student to attend all four years of college.
T4S is a new club sponsored by the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA). The members applied and then were selected individually by the two relationship managers for the SFA, Albie Dickson and Rosie Wiedemer.
“[T4S] is a terrific group of young people who genuinely care about supporting their peers,” Dickson said. “They work very well together, are creative and put a lot of energy into the effort.”
Sasha Dafkova, a junior and member of T4S, says that in addition to giving her the opportunity to help others, being a part of the group has taught her new skills.
“Through T4S, I have learned how to properly organize a successful fundraising event which is a lot more difficult than it seems,” said Dafkova. “Leadership is another big thing that me and all of the other students in this club have learned, because if you don’t take accountability or take the lead, no one else will follow and nothing will get done.”
So far, the group has run three fundraisers. The first was an art auction in which Titan artists submitted their artwork. The art will then be auctioned off on January 28th at Cameron Cafe and then be available online, and all the proceeds will go to T4S. The second fundraiser was at Los Tios where if Titans4Scholars was mentioned, 15% of the proceeds from the meal went to T4S. The group also hosted an after school bake sale and sold treats like scones, cookies and cake pops.
