The State award-winning Alexandria City High School trivia team is back in action for another season. The VHSL sports team was created in the 2000s and has been coached by AP Literature and Credit Recovery teacher Matthew Zahn for the past seven years.

ACHS Presents “Facing Our Truth: 10 Minute Plays on Trayvon, Race and Privilege”
Friday, November 5 was the opening night for the Alexandria City High School Theater Department’s latest production, “Facing our Truth: 10 Minute Plays on Trayvon, Race, and Privilege.” The production consisted of six 10-minute plays related to the death of Trayvon Martin and the verdict in the trial of the man who killed him, George Zimmerman.

Students’ Opinions on the Thanksgiving Break Extension
On Friday, October 29, it was announced that Thanksgiving break would be extended to a full week November 22 through 26, instead of just the 24 through the 26. It was cited that the break was lengthened to give students and staff a mental health break.

Volleyball Senior Night
The celebration of the seniors on the Alexandria City High School volleyball team took place on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at the ACHS gymnasium. The nine class of 2022 seniors are Avery Peters, Jill Jones, Maura Munson, Lila Randall, Kaitlin Peters, Rachel Wilson, Tess Lundgren, Natalie Keough, Meaghan Wendling, and team manager Annie Tucker, together labeled “the nasty nine.” Every year the ACHS volleyball team works together to create an emotional and memorable send off for the seniors.

Spring Track State Champs
On June 18th and 19th at Todd Stadium in Newport News, VA, Wisdom Williams, Joshua Peterson, and David Coles, students of Alexandria City High School (ACHS), became 2021 State Champions. Wisdom Williams won the Discus and Shotput events, with the scores 137-4 and 47.050 respectively. Joshua Peterson won the Long Jump, with a score of 24-10. David Coles won the Triple Jump, with a score of 48-2.50.

Abdullah, Ph.D, of Virginia State University (VSU) spoke to prospective students at Alexandria City High School about why they should choose VSU, a popular Historically Black College and University (HBCU) for their post-secondary education.

SROs Are Back. What’s Next?
The City Council and School Board will reconsider their permanent presence after the November election. Yahney-Marie Sangaré Staff writer On October 12, the Alexandria City Council voted to temporarily reinstate the Student Resource Officer (SRO) program in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) after it was dissolved by a 4-3 vote in May. On October 18, the two previous officers serving as SROs returned to campus. They will remain for the rest of the 2021-2022 school year. The $789,909 initially reallocated from the SRO program was intended to fund additional mental health positions at Alexandria City High School; these positions were never filled.
