    Spring Track State Champs

    On June 18th and 19th at Todd Stadium in Newport News, VA, Wisdom Williams, Joshua Peterson, and David Coles, students of Alexandria City High School (ACHS), became 2021 State Champions. Wisdom Williams won the Discus and Shotput events, with the scores 137-4 and 47.050 respectively. Joshua Peterson won the Long Jump, with a score of 24-10. David Coles won the Triple Jump, with a score of 48-2.50.

    Colin Powell: An American Icon

    On October 18, General Colin Powell died from complications of COVID-19. Powell was born on April 5, 1937 to Jamaican immigrants and grew up in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. He studied geology at the City College of New York and described himself as a “C average student.” After attending the Reserves Officers Training Corps while in college, Powell started his career in the military, fighting in the Vietnam War and eventually becoming a four-star general.

Abdullah, Ph.D, of Virginia State University (VSU) spoke to prospective students at Alexandria City High School about why they should choose VSU, a popular Historically Black College and University (HBCU) for their post-secondary education.

    Chinquapin Circle Drives Gubernatorial Candidates Crazy

    The Chinquapin Circle is known for its highly congested after-school traffic. Every day around 3:15 p.m., flocks of cars patiently wait in line to leave the school. The average wait time can be anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes, regardless of the day. Students, teachers, and the public alike have to endure the traffic jam until the traffic light, granted there is no one crossing the road, permits them to exit the facility. As the highly competitive gubernatorial race enters the final stretch, with recent polling showing a high number of undecided voters, this is truly a race where every vote matters.     Volleyball District Champs, Again

    On Thursday, October 28, 2021, the Alexandria City High School’s girls volleyball team won the District Championship match against West Potomac High School. The Titans beat the Wolverines in 3 thrilling sets. The first set ended with a score of 25-11, when the Titans pulled away from the Wolverines, convincingly.

    SROs Are Back. What’s Next?

    The City Council and School Board will reconsider their permanent presence after the November election. Yahney-Marie Sangaré Staff writer On October 12, the Alexandria City Council voted to temporarily reinstate the Student Resource Officer (SRO) program in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) after it was dissolved by a 4-3 vote in May. On October 18, the two previous officers serving as SROs returned to campus. They will remain for the rest of the 2021-2022 school year. The $789,909 initially reallocated from the SRO program was intended to fund additional mental health positions at Alexandria City High School; these positions were never filled.  The backlash following the removal of SROs coincided…
