Junior, Deanna Kosinski, has transformed her hobby into profit. Kosinski learned how to crochet when she was 16. She started to crochet to connect with her culture, as crochet is common in Slavic cultures.
Ever since, she has crocheted for fun to create new and exciting things for her friends and family and also has turned the hobby into a small business, selling her crochet products.
She crochets clothing items such as gloves, cardigans, tops, shorts, etc. Her most popular item is cat hats, which she sells for $25. Lately, her cat hat-making has become very popular among fellow Titans and a desirable new look for the winter to keep warm.
When asked how she feels about her business, Deanna states, “I feel accomplished when I see people wearing the items I’ve made and I’m glad to see other people enjoying them.”
Kosinski’s passion for crocheting led her to take over the abandoned Yarn Club. She is now the leader of the Yarn Club which meets in room F906 during the first half of lunch and learns on Mondays. She encourages students to join who love to crochet or want to learn how to crochet.
Kosinski’s advice to small Titan businesses is to, “Keep doing what you love. Don’t let others discourage you and remember you are talented. ”
