TC Prepares for Hard Fought Battle at Mount Vernon

TC’s varsity football regular season is coming to a close. With two games left before the playoffs, the team has a 6-2 all game record and a 2-0 district record.

The last 2 games are district games. A student established all sports rivalry between TC and West Potomac High School (West Po) was played last Friday at the St James; the final score was 28-26.

This week, TC travels to Mount Vernon High School to play a highly anticipated game. Mount Vernon has been TC football’s biggest competition in the past years.

“…The Mount Vernon game will be for the conference championship,” said varsity head coach Jimmy Longerbeam, “All the games against Mount Vernon in the past have been very close, so it will be a good game.”

In 2017, TC beat Mount Vernon in a nail-biting game of 38-31. In 2018, TC lost 32-25 in extended overtime against Mount Vernon.

“I don’t think we can lose to them, it’s all or nothing,” said senior fullback Markale Manley.

The football team needs to win the next 2 games in order to obtain its first district title in 29 years.

“I am very excited for game and think we are going to win. If we can play together as a team, we will pull out the win,” said senior safety Kameron Scott.
