In late October 2019, Forever 21, one of the top fast fashion retailers in the country, announced it would be closing over 100 locations in the U.S. alone. The announcement was met with excitement from environmentalists and proponents of sustainable fashion--as well as excitement from young girls getting ready for the anticipated doorbuster sales. But what exactly goes into that $4 t-shirt or $6 pair of jeggings? What goes into your favorite pair of tennis shoes? What goes into that homecoming dress you wore only once? What is the dirty little secret that fast fashion companies like Forever 21, Zara, H&M, Nike, Pacsun, and Under Armour are hiding in plain…

ACPS 2025: Working Toward Equity
New Five-Year Plan Aims to Decrease Disparity Between Students in the School System Stella Williams ACPS 2025, the school system’s new five-year plan, is focused on equity, which ACPS defines as “empowering students, families and staff by providing relationships and nurturing capability to collectively remove barriers that prevent anyone from achieving their aspirations.” Since minorities have fallen behind in the past, the plan aims to narrow the achievement gap in the school system to “meet students where they are and not necessarily where we want them to be,” according to a page on the ACPS website. This change comes with an increased need for organization and accessibility to ensure that students and teachers make the most of this technology. At T.C., teachers mainly use the Learning Management Systems (LMS) Canvas and Google Classroom to share and collect online assignments with students. It was intended that only one of these platforms would be used, after the decision to switch from Blackboard, another LMS that ACPS used from 2005 until spring 2017. This decision…

‘The Little Things That Add Up’
Winter is an interesting time for T.C. sports, with boys basketball games being by far the most popular sport. While the boys are on an upswing this season, generating a lot of buzz and excitement, it seems as if people keep overlooking the remarkable success of the girls sports programs. The female student-athletes need money from ticket and concession sales to afford certain luxuries just as the boys team does.
