Cure Boredom With These Six Fun Ideas

Regina Allen and Abigail St. Jean

Take a walk

Taking a walk is a great way to exercise and reset your mind. Walking is a cardio exercise and can reduce body fat and increase muscle power. Just a quick 30 min walk can put you in the right mindset for the rest of your day and we know you have 30 min to spare. Getting outside has also been known to improve your concentration and increase your mood. Being outside will  get those all important vitamin D levels up. You also might see some cute dogs!

Rearrange your room/cleanout your closet

Have you been in a slump recently? Might want to work on switching up your room. A clean space can improve your moods. Cleaning out your closest can not only make room for all those new clothes you bought online shopping, it can also make you feel more organized. You should make a pile of clothes to keep, donate and just toss. If you are feeling really inspired look into Marie Condo’s cleaning methods. She even has a show on Netflix! Watch this video to learn how you should fold your clothes.

Facetime a friend

You don’t have to stop being social to social distance. Facetiming friends is a good way to stay in contact with them when you can’t meet them in person. You can talk about the excessive homework and lack of motivation you have to do any of it or update them on all of your other corona activities. If you are looking for a laugh or are trying to facetime someone with an android try using Snapchat’s video chat option. They let you pick filters and chat with large groups. Don’t have friends? Facetime grandma! They are always interested in talking to you.

Switch up your homework location

Switching up your homework location is also a good way to reset your mind.  If you are currently doing your homework in your bed, we know why your sleep schedule is messed up. Your bed should be for sleeping and sleeping only. Try doing your homework outside, in your living room or even the kitchen. Try to pick a spot that will ensure that you can focus on your work, the less distractions the better. Freshman Darcy Setliff works in her book nook,” It is very comfortable and I can get work done and I have some early classes so I can also lay down and relax.”

Discover new music

Many Artists have released music this past month. The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Lil Uzi Vert and many more have released new albums. This is a good time to explore new music and broaden your taste. Try listening to Spoify’s Your Discover Weekly playlist. Music with a steady beat can help you concentrate more. If you want to listen to music while doing homework, pick music that you are already familiar with so you don’t focus on the lyrics. Another option is lo fi (a style of relaxing music) or instrumental music. Maybe your own quarantine playlist and share with your friends.

Learn a TikTok Dance

Because you’re already most likely spending hours on the app anyway, you might as well get some exercise out of it. Learning TikTok Dances is a good way to work some cardio into your daily routine. Whether you’re learning how to throw it back to Megan Thee Stallion’s Savage or bouncing around to BENEE’s Supalonely, you’re getting great exercise. If you’re feeling especially creative, make your own. Post it and get viral. Thank us later.
