T.C. Williams recently opened its doors to new science teacher, Timothy Anderson, who teaches Earth Science and AP Biology. He is a new member to the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), but has taught around the area in Maryland in the past.
Anderson is originally from New York, and grew up next to a pond which led to one of his favorite hobbies, fishing. He attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and studied Biology, later receiving his master’s degree in Oceanography.
Soon after Anderson had completed his studies, he was set on teaching, influenced by his high school teachers and his love for explaining how the world works to students. While searching for a teaching job, he worked as an environmental consultant. Anderson taught in New Jersey for 19 years before coming to Virginia. Anderson said, “I decided to work at T.C. Williams because of an amazing variety of science classes taught here, which is a great fit for my skills.”
Anderson says he will do his best and prepare his students for future important exams and obstacles involving science. “If you do not understand biology then you do not understand yourself, since you are a living thing. Earth science and knowing important things can change your life,” he said.
He is also looking forward to starting science teams, to compete in scientific competitions, such as Science Bowl and Science Olympia. “For many years in the past I ran Science Bowl and Science Olympia. I am interested in coaching again,” said Anderson.
