On Friday, September 13, T.C. Williams traveled to Robinson High School to take on the undefeated Rams, who have one of the best running games in the state. Their running attack put 379 yards on the athletic T.C. defense who seemed to have a hard time keeping an eye on the football. Coach Longerbeam said, “We went back to fundamentals, went back the basics and are working on fixing ourselves this week to get ready for the next game.”

Junior running back Anthony Eaton still found a way to shine despite injury, amassing 143 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game “I felt I played pretty good, but it wasn’t enough to get the win, which is what really matters,” said Eaton.

With such an explosive athlete like Eaton, Longerbeam said , “We have to do a better job getting him the ball on the perimeter, screen game, moving him around and just finding creative ways to get the ball in his hands.”

Senior quarterback Jack Rossi got his first full start of the season. For the first few drives he looked sharp, but he struggled to find a rhythm for the rest of the game. “It was good at the beginning,” said Rossi, “but then the offense got slow and we missed some opportunities. We didn’t get in good positions later in the game because Robinson controlled the clock.”

With the quarterback situation up in the air, Longerbeam said, “We will make a decision on Friday we have 3 guys that we are working with this week and we need to figure it out,” said Longerbeam. The third person they are considering playing is Longerbeam’s son, Robert Longerbeam.

About Robert’s ability to play quarterback, former T.C. quarterback Diondre Charlton said, “He has a nice arm but it’s going to be hard adapting from wide receiver to QB, but I believe that he can get the job done, he’s an athlete.” Diondre holds many of the Titans passing records.

Next week T.C. takes on Patriot High School, ranked 48 in the state, for a tough matchup against a tough team. Star running back Anthony Eaton will be out with an injury. On the plan to stop Patriot, Longerbeam said, “We will get an extra guy in the box, bring a safety or backer down because that Patriot offensive line is big.”
