    Poetry Out Loud is a program created in 2006 by the National Endowment for the Arts under Chairman Dana Gioia and The Poetry Foundation where students learn about poetry through memorization and recitation.

    Every public school in Virginia undergoes state-run tests to prove whether or not they are accredited in certain subjects. Accreditation is given to schools that meet state mandated requirements to ensure that schools are educating students.

    Emma Beall Back in Alexandria

    Emma Beall is working to prevent Alexandria teens from pregnancies and drug and alcohol abuse through a new program that she oversees, the Substance Abuse Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA). Beall, who is a T.C. class of 2013 graduate, earned her Masters Degree at Tulane University in five years and then went to work on solving youth public health problems.

    Meet Your New English Teachers

    T.C.’s English department added two new teachers for the 2018-2019 school year. Yolanda Soler has eight years of teaching experience, but this is her first year at T.C. She is teaching Honors English 10.

    T.C. Williams is a massive operation with many moving parts. There are many dedicated contributors to this day to day operation who do not receive enough appreciation for their hard work. One of these staff members is TC Academy 3 Administrative Assistant Casonja Lee.

    TC Alum Making Strides in Portugal

    Former T.C. Williams soccer star Eryk Williamson is taking a big step in his professional soccer career. Williamson, 21, has signed for the first division Portuguese team CD Santa Clara. Williamson was loaned out to Santa Clara on a one-year deal by the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. Williamson was acquired by Portland on January 23, 2018, after his Homegrown Player rights were traded from local side D.C. United.

    Two School Resource Officers (SROs), Officers Johnny Larios and Gary Argueta founded a soccer program for young immigrants. This helps them to find safe ways to deal with cultural transition problems, and reduced rate of involvement in violent acts.
