After a loss in the second round of the regional playoffs last season, the Varsity field hockey team is looking to improve its postseason run this year. The Titans beat Mt. Vernon in the Gunston District Semifinals 5-0, with two goals scored by Senior Reese Hardman, and one goal scored by each Senior Caroline Bates, Junior Caroline Peterson, and Senior Bridget Williams.

Last season, T.C. beat Mt. Vernon to become the Gunston District Champions. “It was really exciting to win the district last year, and I hope we can do it again,” said Junior Mylinh Aslanian.

The team will play West Potomac in the District Final Thursday October 18 at 7:00 at Minnie Howard. The team will continue onto the Regional Tournament no matter the outcome of the game against West Potomac.

The field hockey team went undefeated in the Gunston District this year and ended the regular season record with 13 wins and three losses, two of which were in the South County Tournament at the beginning of the season.

Junior Lilly Church said, “This season everyone worked well together, and we are all really close friends which helped us play well together on the field and have a successful season.”

The team outscored its opponents 48-12 in the regular season. Hardman and Junior Marley Mainelli were the team’s top scorers.

West Potomac finished the regular season with a record of 11-5, and had a record of 5-3 in the district. T.C. beat West Potomac twice this season with a score 1-0 each time.
