Mother, wife, icon, and former First Lady, Michelle Obama’s new memoir, Becoming, has already sold over 1.4 millions of copies in its first week of being released, and a week later, Becoming is the bestselling book of 2018. It was released to the public on November 13, 2018. Becoming is a memoir that discusses her roots and how she found her voice, as well as her time in the White House. “I’ve never been a fan of politics,” she writes, “and my experience over the last 10 years has done little to change that.” During her years standing by her husband Barack Obama and becoming the first lady, she learned a lot about herself and the relationship with her family, marriage, and about her country.

An influential individual who will have her name in history books, Obama wrote, “So far in my life I’ve been a lawyer, I’ve been a vice president at a hospital … and until recently, I was the First Lady of the United States of America, Wife of the 44th President, Barack Obama.” Obama is the first African-American First Lady of the United States and attempted to keep her main initiatives intact, she has since become a role model for women and families, Launched MyPlate and MiPlato which is an easy understandable icon to help parents make healthier choices for their families, and empowering international adolescent girls through education.

“My husband is making his own adjustments to life after the White House, catching his own breath, and here I am, in this new place, with a lot to say” wrote Obama at the end of the preface, continuing with a sense of refreshing candor. Obama’s new memoir has an eye catching picture collection of her childhood playing ball, graduation, and a few pictures of her family.

Hardcover book sales are just one measurement of the book’s popular publication, Becoming is also an Ebook/audiobook online and will be published globally in 24 languages on November 13 by Penguin Random House which acquires world publishing rights to Michelle and Barack Obama’s memoirs in a deal reportedly paid Barack and Michelle Obama a joint advance of $65 million for their memoirs. Obama has been on a 10-city book tour since fall for her new memoir. Tickets have been selling out, making many frustrated, however, Obama is donating 10 percent of tickets for each date to the community groups, and charities. She also has had talks with Oprah Winfrey, and a surprise visit from Barack Obama at one of her talks, and revelations.

As of December 11, Becoming has already sold over three million copies, and is extending her book tour into 2019. Hopes of people ‘becoming’ themselves on their journey of their lives, Obama wrote “My hope is that this book will inspire everyone to tap into their own journeys of becoming and to share those stories with one another.”
