The TC Williams Administration team introduced Cheryl Mills as the Lead Administrator for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. She is new to Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS).
Mills is originally from Queens, New York. She attended Fisk University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and then she received a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from City University of New York.
Mills pervious lived in Westchester County, “I taught in the South Bronx for 15 years before moving to Virginia in 1997” Mills said. After leaving Westchester County, Mills said, “I started working at Prince William County, and I was [there] as a teacher, administrator, and other various titles for about 21 years.”
At TC Williams, Mills said, “I ensure that the curriculum is being followed, and ensure that you are learning, and I work with the teachers to make sure that is taking place.” Her position ensures that students are learning and that the teachers are teaching form the curriculum adquently.
Along with helping students, Mills’ position requires her to work closely with the teachers. The amount of experience Mills has as a teacher and administrator has made her a valuable leader, “I know what teachers are experiencing because I just left [teaching] recently.” Mills said, “I am in classrooms observing, I am always talking to teachers just to see what they need and how I can help”. Mills is also in charge of the administrators of all of the academies.
