Below is a transcript of an interview with T.C. senior golfer Marc Wagner. The golf team had a great season, going 6-2. Topics discussed include the golf team’s future, Wagner’s reflection on the year, and how the golf team became successful.
Q: What can be attributed to the recent success of the golf team?
A: The team is successful because we have all pushed each other to be as good as we can be and also we have pushed ourselves to be the very best.
Q: What have you changed in your own game to make yourself better?
A: I have mostly changed my tempo and routine, which has helped me keep myself cool and collected throughout my round. This helped me put up a solid number this year.
Q: I know that you need to leave school a lot to play golf, so has that had an affect on your grades?
A: In the past it used to have an effect, but as I continued I was able to manage my time better.
Q: Are you thinking about playing golf in the future?
A: Yes, I plan on practicing all winter, spring, and summer to become more consistent and eventually walk on to a division 1 school such as ODU or VCU.
Q: Since you are a multi-sport athlete, what made you decide to join the golf team?
A: Golf can be played your whole life. It’s awesome that T.C. golf has benefits like playing at local country clubs and competing with kids our age for free. The golf team is a family and it has been awesome leading the team this year.
Q: Since you are as senior, what is your overall reflection of this past season and are you happy with the underclassmen that are going to take your place?
A: We were the best team in the district and I feel like our record isn’t reflective of the the team this year. However, I am proud that our record has improved every year I’ve been on the team since I was a freshman. Next year, I guarantee the team goes undefeated. The team’s underclassmen have great potential and there will be a few new faces in the top 6 next year.
