Did you know that each school has a designated public relations liaison, whose role it is to help tell each school’s story? It’s true! You can find contact information for your school’s liaison below.
There are a lot of amazing things happening in our schools and there is a lot of good news to share. So much, that last year ACPS launched the School Public Relations Liaison Program as part of an effort to help schools spread their good news. Through the School PR Liaison Program, Twitter usage increased by an average of 100 percent across elementary schools and 174 percent across secondary schools over the course of the school year. School Facebook pages, which had previously posted mainly automated content, increased their likes by 109 percent across elementary and 78.5 percent across secondary schools.
Most schools have one public relations liaison. T.C. Williams, because of it’s size and dual campuses, has several. These liaisons receive training on how to use social media effectively, how to capture engaging photos and how to maximize the tools of the trade. Each liaison is equipped with an iPad, which they use to take photos and share updates on social media.
In order for them to have the most impact, we need you!
Whether you are a parent, teacher or staff member, here are five easy ways that you can help spread the good news about our schools:
- Connect with your school on Facebook (links below)
- Following your school on Twitter (links below)
- Connect with ACPS on Facebook and Twitter at @ACPSk12
- Like and retweet the great social media content shared by our liaisons and ACPS with your online communities
- Get in touch with your PR liaison when you have good news or want to get the word out about an upcoming event that is of interest to your school community or larger community.
Not all good news is appropriate for social media; some might be better suited to the school newsletter, website or calendar. Our PR liaisons coordinate with their school’s newsletter and website editors, so they can steer you in the right direction.
Many thanks to our PR liaisons for the key role they play in engaging our families and our community with our schools.
