D.C. United celebrated ACPS Teacher of the Year Nominees at a special gathering at Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology during National Teacher Appreciation Week.
The program kicked off with a short assembly for students led by United defender Taylor Kemp and midfielder Patrick Nyarko. During the assembly, the players shared their most memorable stories about their favorite teachers with the 200-plus students in attendance. Kemp and Nyarko also helped introduce the thirteen Teacher of the Year nominees, who represent schools across ACPS.
It was a great experience. Teachers do some much for us. To be a student-athlete was pretty hard and having teachers show me the love and care that they did, got to me where I am now, and for that I will always be appreciative,” Nyarko said.
The soccer club staged an awards ceremony with students to recognize the work of the teachers and then served a lavish lunch, where the players served the teachers.
Each Teacher of the Year Nominee was given a grab bag with $50 worth of gift vouchers to purchase items for their school.
