Teachers are getting their first chance to discuss what ACPS 2020 means to them this week when ACPS Curriculum staff starts to roll out the ideas behind the Academic Goal for the Strategic Plan.
Chief Academic Officer Terri Mozingo held the first in a series of sessions for teachers aimed at expanding their participation and involvement at one of her Teacher Talks.
Teaching staff at Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School brainstormed the ideas behind ACPS 2020 through an activity with a beach ball, watched videos aimed at ensuring comprehension of the Academic goal and then participate in a discussion around how to implement the goal. They were also each given an ‘I am #EveryStudent’ T-shirt for participating in the session.
“The idea behind this format is to get teachers to start talking about what the Academic goal means to them in a way that isn’t overwhelming or adding to their workload. This is a fun, dynamic workshop for teachers who want to learn more. Wear red to support the roll out of the Academic part of ACPS 2020 this week,” Dr. Mozingo said.
ACPS 2020 has six goals, and the first of those is Academic Excellence and Educational Equity. This goal states that academics are the foundation of a high performing school division. ACPS pledges to educate students in an atmosphere of excellence and educational equity and see students challenged to stretch their talents and aspirations.
“Our goal at ACPS is to see every student academically successful and prepared for life, work, and college,” Dr. Mozingo said.
Each goal owner will begin rolling out their goals in the next few weeks. The format is dependent on the goal owner and the audience they are trying to reach.
