Superintendent Alvin L. Crawley has appointed Jasibi Crews-West as the new Principal of Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology.
Crews-West has been an assistant principal at John Adams Elementary School for the past two years, with responsibility for overseeing the school culture and instructional program, and building community and family engagement at the school. Prior to John Adams, she was a member of the bilingual Spanish-English team at Mount Vernon Community School while it transitioned to become a full Dual Language Program school.
“We are delighted that Ms. Crews-West will be the next principal of Cora Kelly. We firmly believe that the students, staff and parents are all going to love her warm, personable approach, and appreciate the depth of instructional experience that she brings to this role. We are confident that she will be an asset to Cora Kelly for many years to come,” said Dr. Crawley.
Crews-West has spent the last two years working to create a data-driven model to track students’ progress at John Adams. She has supported and maintained a successful Dual Language Program at John Adams through the realignment of human and instructional resources and has collaborated with dual language staff, leadership and parents at both John Adams and Mount Vernon to ensure the curriculum is implemented with fidelity.
“My vision is to build a school community where students’ academic success and emotional well-being are the top priorities of all staff, parents and the community. I am committed to being a solutions-oriented principal where students and staff are informed and inspired. Together we will set high expectations and create a collective vision of excellence in which we are all invested,” said Crews-West.
Crews-West is a member of the National Association for Bilingual Education, a member of the Dual Language Advisory Committee, and has been nominated for The Washington Post’s Agnes Meyer Teacher of the Year Award. In addition to being trained in bilingual literacy best practices, she also has International Baccalaureate training.
“My considerable K-5 professional experience will help create a warm, positive, and engaging learning environment for a diverse student population and create a positive school culture,” Crews-West said.
She will start in the role on July 1.
