The Spring Movement Challenge, the inaugural event in our comprehensive new wellness program, ACPS Finding Fit, was a great success with 14 of 17 schools and Central Office staff participating. More than 30 percent of school employees and 46 percent of Central Office staff participated.
Six of the 14 participating schools saw participants average at least 10,000 daily steps with each of the remaining schools logging at least 9,000 steps each day. At Central Office, the 4th floor team was the only one to surpass 10,000 steps.
Congratulations to John Adams Elementary School, the most active school with the highest per day participant average of 13,123 steps. James K. Polk Elementary School led the way with the highest percentage of school participation with 60 out of 90 employees joining in the fun.
The secret to Polk’s success? Morning and afternoon walking clubs with routes and information displayed at various places around the building. Other schools created weekly competitions among their employees, which motivated those involved to keep moving.
ACPS Finding Fit aims to develop healthy habits among staff so that they will become genuine movement ambassadors to the students with whom many of them work on a daily basis. The Movement Challenge was designed to engage employees in a fun, competitive, healthy contest, both building staff morale and growing the health literacy of all employees. A new competitive health-related challenge will be offered each spring.
Congratulations and thank you to Lisa Falleroni from Matthew Maury Elementary School for her winning entry, “ACPS Finding Fit,” in the contest to name our new comprehensive wellness program.
