Sherri Chapman, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator, received the 2015 Southern Business Education Association (SBEA) Supervision Distinguished Service Award at the annual convention in Kingsport, Tennessee on October 23.
Chapman was nominated for the award by the executive board of the Virginia Business Education Association (VBEA) and will advance to national competition in March as the nominee for the National Business Education Association Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions to business education.
“I appreciate being recognized for the many years of service devoted to Business and Information Technology as a teacher, department leader, state organization board member, and school division CTE Coordinator,” Chapman said.
She has been instrumental in adding Digital Input Technologies to the middle school CTE offerings, updating high school business program offerings, and leading the Economics and Personal Finance curriculum writing and revision.
“It is most exciting to see students engaged in hands-on applications from the opportunities the ACPS Business and Information Technology teachers give them in middle school and high school,” Chapman said.
Chapman served on the VBEA Board for more than 20 years as Regional Representative, President-Elect, President, Past-President and Secretary. She also has served on the Virginia Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators executive board as Vice President and Treasurer, and recently voted in as their 2016 President-Elect.
She has won numerous awards in the past including Who’s Who of America Teachers, Who’s Who Among Executive and Professional Women, and the 2010 Outstanding Career and Technical Educator for Virginia ACTE.
