ACPS will be opening our schools as voting sites on Election Day, November 7.
On the ACPS calendar, this is a teacher work day, which traditionally means that employees report to work. This causes issues with parking at some of our schools.
To assist with the election and to reduce the number of vehicles occupying spaces on our campuses, the schools’ administration are being encouraged to allow flexibility in the work schedules of instructional staff. ACPS will support a principal’s decision to allow instructional staff to work from home on November 7. Instructional staff includes administrators, counselors, teachers and paraprofessionals.
Instructional support staff, including paraprofessionals, will be given the flexibility to participate in professional development from home or at school by completing online coursework assigned to them through VML University. Staff will receive descriptions regarding the coursework and instruction separately.
Non-instructional staff will report to their school and work normal contract hours. Typical non-instructional staff that report on a teacher work day include custodians and office staff. Principals should discuss work schedules with their non-instructional staff that will allow them the opportunity to vote. Any variation to an employee’s normal work schedule should be discussed and decided prior to November 7.
If an employee is uncertain whether he or she should report to work on November 7, it is her/his responsibility to communicate with a supervisor/administrator to make a determination of hours and location of work on November 7.
