Writing Workshop 101
The session is designed for those new to Writing Workshop or those who want a quick refresher. Participants will learn the basic parts of daily Writing Workshop: mini-lessons, writing and conferences, and how to meet the needs of all learners within those structures. By the end of the interactive session, participants will be able to explain how to plan and implement a writing workshop structure in their classroom. #14404
Blended Learning in the TAG Classroom
How can using blended learning strategies affect student achievement? This course will provide enhanced blended learning strategies for use in both general education and TAG classrooms. #14787
Strategies for Students Who Engage in School Refusal
How can school social workers improve attendance for students who engage in school refusal? School refusal is often the result of greater mental-health related issues such as major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (separation anxiety, social anxiety, performance anxiety or anxiety related to test-taking) and post traumatic stress disorder. This training will review: both internalizing and externalizing symptoms that could signal school refusal behavior; somatic complaints and medical conditions commonly associated with school refusal behavior; tangible treatment options to use when treating these behaviors in schools; and case studies. #14795
Scientific Literacy through Guided Inquiry Strategies for Secondary Science Classrooms
Why use inquiry in your classroom? In this session, secondary science teachers will collaborate to perform and analyze a guided inquiry experiment from the teacher and student perspective. There will be an emphasis improving science instruction for students at all levels by incorporating inquiry activities to provide opportunities for structured and purposeful student discourse and interaction. Specific focus areas in the workshop will include scaffolding using visuals, demonstrations, modeling, leveled directions and sentence frames. #14762
AbleNet Math Curriculum
How can we strategically utilize the AbleNet Math Curriculum with students who are working on the ASOLs? The focus of this session is to provide professional development in the use of an alternate math curriculum for students accessing the ASOLs. Teachers of citywide programs will be able to implement the curriculum with fidelity to support student achievement in math. #14793
