Are you a new teacher at ACPS?
The first year of teaching, whether it’s your first year as a full-fledged teacher in any classroom or it’s your first time teaching for ACPS, is an exciting and adventurous time. Your starting off in a new school with new colleagues, new students, a new curriculum, new processes and procedures and more. We know the culmination of all of these new things can also feel a bit overwhelming, so we’ve created a new program just for first-year teachers with ACPS.
As part of our commitment to growing, supporting and retaining an exemplary staff — goal three of the ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan — this fall, ACPS is launching a year-long teacher mentorship program, Growing the ACPS Way. The program is designed to support teachers throughout the first year of teaching at ACPS by establishing a cohort of new to ACPS teachers, pairing each with a mentor and providing learning sessions throughout the year to equip teachers with the information and tools needed for a successful first year and future with ACPS.
“Unity is strength . . . when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” — Mattie Stepanek
Throughout the 2018-19 school year, new teachers will participate in five interactive sessions specifically designed to assist new teachers in understanding the multiple facets of ACPS that make our school division a unique and rewarding place to teach and learn.
If you’re a new teacher at ACPS, mark your calendar to attend these required sessions. Each are expected to be 90 minutes to two hours in length and are tentatively scheduled for 4 – 6 p.m. on:
- Thursday, October 11
- Tuesday, December 11
- Wednesday, February 27
- Thursday, March 14
- Tuesday, June 11
We look forwarding to see you there!
