Best Bets in Children’s Literature: Books as Mirrors, Windows and Sliding Doors
How can ACPS educators quickly learn about the latest in children’s literature? If you love learning about the latest in high-quality children’s literature, this session is for you! Join ACPS educators to learn about the best in recently published children’s books. We know that students who choose to read are good readers. We believe that teachers who know great culturally-relevant books can best help connect our students with books they will want to read. By the end of the session, teachers will be able to share how they might connect a reluctant reader with a specific book. #14522
Preparing Students for Success with the Computer Adaptive Reading SOL Test
How can schools prepare students for the computer adaptive Reading SOL Test (Grades 3-5)? By the end of the session, participants will be able to explain two specific strategies to support students with success on the computer adaptive Reading SOL Test. This session will be co-facilitated by Jim Anderson from the Accountability Office and Suzanne Lank from the Curriculum and Instruction Office. #14752
Tricks and Tools for PLMS Course Creation
How can PLMS course creators build courses to best fit their school’s needs? What features are available within PLMS to organize and advertise our professional learning? This course will support course creators to better advertise and organize the professional learning at your school. Participants will learn ways to target courses to specific audiences, create sections that can be replicated, taking attendance, and managing access to your courses. #14796
Science Fair
How can students use evidence to solve problems? Teachers will support students presenting their science fair projects at one of the three ACPS science fairs. Teachers have the option of participating in set-up, registration, student support during the fair, or judging. Participants will gain a better understanding of the skills required for students to complete and present a successful science fair project, which is a requirement for all honors science students in grades 6-12. #14748
