Disability Awareness Month: Sign up for Special Education Parent Resource Center Newsletter
The Anne R. Lipnick Special Education Parent Resource Center (PRC) provides the parent/guardian of a child with disability information on what kind of services are offered for their child and how to navigate ACPS. Simultaneous interpretation is available.
The PRC’s weekly newsletter updates families on events, including webinars, research studies and activities such as walks for autism. Families can subscribe to the weekly newsletter by clicking on the red box on the PRC webpage.
Located at the Minnie Howard Campus of Alexandria City High School, the PRC’s lending library has more than 500 books, DVDs and CDs to review, with information across all disabilities. It also has a children’s literature section that reflects the cultural diversity within ACPS.

16th Annual Autism Walk and Family Funfest, sponsored by the Autism Society of Northern Virginia.

A webinar for parents is being held this month as part of the Anne R. Lipnick Special Education Parent Resource Center 2021-22 Family Engagement Series. The webinar, “Strategies for a Good Start to the School Year for Students with Disabilities” will be held Mon, Oct. 25, from 4:00-5:00pm. The session will provide parents with strategies to help their child with a disability get a good start to a successful school year. The webinar will be presented by Janet Reese, ACPS parent support specialist, and Dr. Courtney Davis, ACPS coordinator, Parent Resource Center. Interpreter services will be provided.
