Calendar Reminder: Spring Break (April 11-15, 2022) & Teacher Workday (April 18, 2022)
There is no school for students April 11-18 in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). ACPS Central Office and all schools are closed for Spring Break, which is April 11-15, 2022. On Mon., April 18, 2022, there is no school for any ACPS students; schools following the traditional calendar have a teacher workday and, for Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School, which follows the modified calendar, a professional learning day is scheduled for April 18.

Student Meals Available for Pick-Up Over Spring Break
Children in the City of Alexandria, between the ages of two and 18, are eligible for meals from our school division over Spring Break, which is scheduled for April 11-15, 2022. Families can receive up to five days of meals for breakfast and lunch per child. There is no need for families to have signed up in advance to receive student meals from ACPS over Spring Break this year.

Meals will be available for pick-up between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Alexandria City High School (ACHS), located at 3330 King Street, on Monday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 13, on the east side of the building next to the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center. Two days of meals will be provided on Monday and three days of meals will be provided on Wednesday.

Planning for Spring Break: Health and Safety Reminder
ACPS Spring Break is April 11-15, 2022, and we know that many students, families and staff are looking forward to it. Please consider observing the following health and safety reminders to help reduce COVID-19 transmission and keep our schools open for in-person learning:

• If any family members have not yet been vaccinated, consider getting a COVID-19 vaccination for all family members ages five plus before you leave.
• Encourage family members who have been vaccinated to get boosters before traveling.
• Make sure everyone’s flu shots are up to date.
• Wear masks if around people who are not vaccinated.
• Test before traveling and again when returning home.
• Review updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on transmission levels at your destination.
• Make sure students bring home all learning devices from school in the event that there is any need to transition to temporary virtual learning.

ACPS is Getting Ready for Kindergarten in 2022-23

Kindergarten Registration Begins April 20, 2022
Celebrating the Week of the Young Child, April 2-8, coincides with Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) getting prepared for the incoming kindergarten students who will enroll for the 2022-23 school year. We welcome our soon-to-be incoming kindergarteners who are excited and ready to experience the joy of learning with fellow students in a classroom setting.

Kindergarten registration for the 2022-23 school year will begin on April 20, 2022. Families can prepare for the registration process by checking that their child meets age requirements and gathering the required documents. You can also use the Attendance Zone Locator to find your school zone.

ACPS schools are hosting virtual kindergarten open houses so families can learn more about their school. Visit the website for your school for details about the school’s kindergarten open house; also, information about kindergarten registration is available on the ACPS website.

Step Up to Kindergarten on Aug. 19, 2022
ACPS will host a half-day of orientation on Aug. 19, 2022, called “Step Up to Kindergarten,” for incoming kindergarten students. This introduction to the school experience before the official start of the school year helps incoming kindergarten students become familiar with their schools, classrooms and teachers so they can feel more comfortable on the first day of school.
