If you have not yet taken the mandatory E-learning portion of the ALICE training, your time is running out to meet this requirement. The deadline is April 1, so please be sure to complete the training before you head out for spring break! If you have already completed instructor training and received your certificate you do not need to take the training that is being offered at this time.
As previously announced, ACPS is in the process of rolling out training to prepare staff and students in the event of an active shooter incident. The ALICE Training Institute is the number one active shooter civilian response training for all organizations, providing options-based strategic methods against an active shooter event. The new emergency response procedures at ACPS reflect national best practices regarding options for action in the event of a violent incident.
Mandatory Training
This two-part training is mandatory for all current ACPS staff and will be incorporated into the onboarding process for all new staff in the fall.
Part 1: E-learning (February 26 to April 1, 2018)
This is an online course that explains the options available in the event of an active shooter situation. This training must be completed by all staff by April 1. The successful completion of an online test is needed in order for the course to be registered as complete. Sections can be repeated until successfully completed. This training must be completed prior to the scenario training.
An email was sent to each employee from the ALICE Training Institute with a link to the training module for Part 1. If you do not see it, please check your spam/junk folder. If you did not receive the email, please send an email to james.bartlett@acps.k12.va.us and copy kimberly.ford@acps.k12.va.us to request one.
Part 2: Scenario training (Dates and Times for this training to be announced)
This is a three-hour practical training conducted in person at an ACPS school facility. The training will be piloted at two schools before the end of the school year.
Attending one of these training sessions once scheduled is mandatory for all staff. Staff members who have a medical or other reason may request an exemption. Requests for exemptions must be made through human resources. We will let you know how to do this closer to the training.
Obtaining Certification Credits
Once you have completed the training, your certification credits will be updated by our ACPS admin team in PLMS by April 10. You do not need to take any further action, but please let us know if the credits do not appear by May 15.
Your safety and the safety of our students is a top priority, so please take the time to complete this training.
