ACPS welcomed new Director of Budget and Financial Systems, Michael Herbstman, this month.
Herbstman will be helping to lead the annual budget development process for the Capital Improvement Program and the Combined-Funds Budget. In addition, he will monitor budgets, ensure compliance with various policies, regulations, grant rules and best practices, development/maintenance of budget policies and procedures and serve as a liaison to schools and central office departments for budget items.
Herbstman has an extensive background in financial management and experience that includes work with the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Chicago Public Schools and with a private risk management consulting firm.
A recent Chicago transplant, Herbstman is still loyal to Chicago sports teams and is a self-proclaimed budget and policy nerd.
