ACPS has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 2015-16 annual budget.
The award represents a significant achievement by ACPS as it represents the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. ACPS was also honored with a Special Performance Measures Recognition for the content that explains goals and objectives and performance targets.
“Congratulations to Chief Financial Officer Stacey Johnson and the entire Financial Services team on receiving these distinguished honors. The awards reflect the dedication of our Financial Services staff on behalf of our school system and their exceptional commitment to the ACPS 2020 goal of Effective and Efficient operations,” said ACPS Superintendent Dr. Alvin Crawley.
The ACPS 2020 Strategic Plan focuses on Effective and Efficient Operations. The goal ensures ACPS handles its business operations with diligent care and the highest ethical standards in order to provide proper stewardship and a full accounting of our resources. Having a strategic goal such as Effective and Efficient Operations in the 2020 plan demonstrates the importance of this work for all ACPS staff.
“This award demonstrates that ACPS is continuing to operate to the highest standards and thereby growing Alexandria’s financial investment in its children,” said Stacey Johnson, Chief Financial Officer.
The GFOA Budget Awards Program was established in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments in preparing budget documents of the very highest quality and to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
The award recognizes the ACPS budget as having satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation and that its budget document is rated “proficient” as a policy document, as a financial plan, as an operations guide and as a communications device.
