- News and Announcements

Newly appointed ACPS Superintendent Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. will be in town the weekend of January 19 to reconnect with the Alexandria community. He will start in the new role on July 1.

Dr. Hutchings will participate in a “community meet and greet” on January 20, 10 – 11 a.m. in the George Washington Middle School Media Center, which staff are welcome to attend. If you cannot make this date, we will offer a similar opportunity specially for staff members to meet with Dr. Hutchings in the early spring.

This time it is a brief visit. Dr. Hutchings will be back to meet various groups of staff before he starts in the role. If you see Dr. Hutchings in the hallway or the elevator  make sure you say “hello”.

Last month, the Alexandria City School Board selected Dr. Hutchings, a graduate of T.C. Williams High School, as superintendent of ACPS. The news was received with an overwhelmingly warm response from the community. Although Dr. Hutchings won’t be fully on board until this summer, he’ll be in town some weekends to reconnect with the Alexandria community.

Dr. Hutchings grew up in the West End and came up through the ranks of ACPS. He attended Patrick Henry and William Ramsay Elementary Schools followed by Mount Vernon Community School. He then attended James K. Polk Elementary School and Francis C. Hammond Middle School. He graduated from T.C. Williams in 1995.

Dr. Hutchings, served as the director of middle school programs, then director of pre-K-12 initiatives with ACPS before becoming the superintendent of Shaker Heights Schools, located in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.
