Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) welcomed new members to the Alexandria City School Board during a virtual induction ceremony on Jan. 4, 2022. The nine 2022-25 School Board members were elected in November 2021 and were sworn in to assume their responsibilities to adopt policy for the daily operation of schools and ensure that school laws are properly explained, enforced, and observed.

Alexandria City is divided into three voting districts, and three Board members are elected from each district. Each member will serve a three-year term. The new School Board members are:

  • District A: Willie F. Bailey Sr., Jacinta Greene and Dr. Michelle Rief
  • District B: Dr. Ashley Simpson Baird, Kelly Carmichael Booz and Tammy S. Ignacio
  • District C: Meagan L. Alderton, Abdel-Rahman Elnoubi and W. Christopher Harris

A virtual School Board meeting followed the induction ceremony and included School Board business including the adoption of a School Board meeting calendar. The new Board elected Meagan L. Alderton for a second term as the chair and Jacinta Greene as the vice chair.

“It is my honor to welcome this group of exceptional community leaders who have been elected to our School Board,” said School Board Chair Meagan L. Alderton. “We’re excited to get to work right away, and appreciate that our Board brings diverse expertise and insight to work with the superintendent for our school division.”

“I know my fellow board members join me in wanting the best for all ACPS students and in feeling honored to serve our community and work to advance the school division’s mission in a way that is inclusive and equitable for all,” said School Board Vice Chair Jacinta Greene.

The Alexandria City School Board ensures that all students reach their highest academic potential and that they are prepared for citizenship, higher education, and to be life, college and career ready. To accomplish this goal, the Board makes policy, budget, and leadership decisions that are aligned with the ACPS Vision and Strategic Plan; and will communicate with and involve stakeholders actively and transparently.
