Twelve elementary schools have participated in a challenge to help promote the educational benefits of a physically active lifestyle.
Throughout the month of March, schools competed to get the greatest number of classes and students moving consistently.
The Move2Learn March Movement Challenge provided support for teachers to implement physical exercises into the daily structure of the curriculum. It also saw students complete more than 225,000 physical activities.
According to the results of participant surveys, the increased activity had a positive impact on the classroom.
Physical activities were effective tools when used during transitional periods, helping to refocus young learners. Participants also noted that brain boosts were habit-building and pledged to continue developing these activities. “Sign me up for a fall and spring challenge,” one participant responded.
The March Movement Challenge was a component of RunningBrooke’s Move2Learn program. This initiative provides funding and instruction that supports the physical and academic well-being of children in Alexandria.
