ACPS family members between the ages of two and 18 are eligible for meals from our school division over the winter break.

The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) has announced that health care providers, pharmacies and AHD are now offering COVID-19 boosters to all vaccinated residents over 18 years of age.

As we head into the winter months, the team at Alexandria City Public Schools has planned for the days when in-person instruction may not be possible.

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) and Virginia Tech have expanded their partnership to enhance science, technology, engineering and math opportunities for students and create potential pathways to higher education. The partnership kicked off its pilot program at James K. Polk Elementary School.

The School Board held a special called meeting on Nov. 29 and a regular meeting on Dec. 2.

With the support of the School Board, ACPS is shortening the length of quarantine for close contacts to seven days after the date of last exposure if families provide documentation to the school of a negative COVID PCR test that is administered on day five, six, or seven.

ACPS is celebrating the rollout of five new electric school buses to join its 118-vehicle fleet. The electric buses were purchased by ACPS with the assistance of the Dominion Energy Electric School Bus Program. ACPS purchased five of the 50 buses that were part of this program.

The school division is fortunate to have 10 school-based parent liaisons and three division-wide parent liaisons, specializing in Spanish, Amharic and Arabic.

ACPS salutes our substitute teachers as we celebrate National Substitute Educators Day today (Nov. 19). Substitute teachers continue to provide quality education to students in the temporary absence of their classroom teacher. They are flexible, resilient and dedicated as they provide continuation in a child’s education.

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. has proposed a fiscally responsible Capital Improvement Program budget (CIP) of $495,004,800 for the next 10 years that focuses on addressing the division’s capacity needs and supporting instructional excellence in our schools.

ACPS’ newest Language Line resource offers families easier access to interpretation services when they call their student’s school. Language Line Direct Response allows families who speak Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, Farsi and Pashto to contact ACPS with a qualified interpreter already on the phone line.
