Superintendent Alvin L. Crawley has been invited to represent K-12 schools on an advisory committee set up by Governor Terry McAuliffe.
Dr. Crawley will represent schools from across Northern Virginia on the Governor’s Opportunity Initiative, which is part of the Virginia Initiative for Growth and Opportunity, better known as Go Virginia.
Go Virginia was initiated by the Virginia Business Higher Education Council and the Council on Virginia’s Future to foster private-sector growth and job creation through state incentives for regional collaboration by business, educational and government organizations.
I am honored to be invited to participate in this advisory group, whose goals are in line with our own ACPS 2020 goals. In today’s world, school divisions need to look to public-private partnerships and work with the business community to increase their opportunities and be able to retain their focus on the work of being high-performing educational organizations,” said Dr. Crawley.
The bipartisan, business-led advisory committee aims to work for regional cooperation on private-sector growth, job creation and career readiness. The efforts are meant to counter the effect of budget cuts on the Virginia economy, which is highly dependent on public-sector jobs.
The Initiative aims to use the skill sets and knowledge of business and community leaders, partners in education and government, and interested citizens to secure a future of expanding opportunity for all Virginians.
