Mount Vernon Community School Classrooms Receive Surprise Make-over

Three classrooms at Mount Vernon Community School were given a surprise make-over by staff from the National Education Association over the weekend.

The teachers were told a few days before the make-over that their classrooms had been selected and were allowed to share with the students about the surprise.

The three lucky teachers were music teacher Denise Swanburg, art teacher Sara Bukoski and third-grade teacher Melanie Needels.

Organizing my classroom is really a challenge for me. It’s really important to have a space that is organized because it increases your instructional time. You are not wasting a lot of time trying to find things. The professional organizer gave me tips on how to organize things into less storage space. This whole experience was really valuable for me,” said Swanburg.

I wanted to make things even more accessible for the students so that they can get what they need when they need it so that our artists can focus on being creative,” said Bukoski.

The three classrooms were made over with the help of a professional organizer, with supplies provided by The Container Store.

It works so much better. You can now get to your projects more easily and find things that you need,” said one of Bukoski’s students after the make-over.
