Congratulations to Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School’s Farr Quinn, who has been selected as a Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (VCTM) William C. Lowry Math Educator of the Year recipient.
“The Math Educator of the Year award recognizes one middle school educator as the representative of Virginia who exemplifies the dedication to teaching and learning mathematics for equity, challenging the status quo and inspiring others in the field with their innovative and creative ways of engaging students in mathematics,” explained Holly Tate, instructional mathematics coach at Ferdinand T. Day Elementary School. Tate nominated Quinn for the honor, calling her a gifted and dedicated teacher and learner who is diligent in correlating the Virginia Standards of Learning to instruction as she focuses on a love of learning and high academic achievement.
This VCTM award is in honor of Dr. William Carl Lowry, a renowned Virginia mathematics teacher whose life’s work was devoted to the subject. Dr. Lowry is said to have had a greater impact in promoting mathematics education in the Commonwealth than any other educator. Tate calls the award “significant in that it elevates outstanding mathematics educators and leaders.”
