Our essential workers are always ready to support the community as they did during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and every day as they continue to provide assistance. Celebrating Alexandria City Essential Workers Appreciation Week, March 13-20, is our way of shining the spotlight on our firefighters, police officers, health care professionals and school staff, among others, to say thank you.
With the theme being, “Alexandria City Salutes Our Essential Workers,” the official kickoff event for the celebration will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, with Superintendent Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr., the Alexandria PTA Council, members of the Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria Sheriff’s Office and Alexandria Fire Department, as well as health care professionals, school staff, community leaders and other esteemed guests. In addition to learning through career presentations and activities that teach safety skills, students will show their appreciation by presenting cards to the essential workers.
Join in the recognition of our amazing essential workers by participating via social media! ACPS will also lead the following activities throughout the week:
- Tuesday, March 15: “Thank you Tuesday” asking ACPS community members to take a picture with their favorite essential worker and share with the hashtag #ThxACPSEssentialWorkers
- Wednesday, March 16: A recognition of women essential workers in honor of Women’s History Month.
- Thursday, March 17: A special presentation from students to the essential workers who tutor them weekly as part of the Life Enrichment Center (LEC) program at Cora Kelly; LEC is an official ACPS partner that provides tutoring at Cora Kelly with essential workers who volunteer their time to mentor and support our students.
- Friday, March 18: A video paying tribute to the service of essential workers in the March 18 ACPS Express/Insider.
We ask you to embrace the moment and join in expressing our collective gratitude for all essential workers.
