Dear ACPS Families and Community,
This special edition of our weekly newsletter is to help prepare all of us for the transition into our school buildings and welcome students and staff inside our buildings for the first time since we closed almost 12 months ago.
Understandably, there is trepidation as well as excitement and we hope that providing these additional resources will help prepare hybrid students, staff and families for a smooth and safe transition.
School will look very different to how we remember it and there will be a period of adjustment that will be challenging; however, we know that with routines, preparation and experience we will be able to overcome these challenges.
To support this, today we are sharing a “Day in the Life” video that will walk you through the school day at our Early Childhood Center and in elementary school. Similar videos for middle and high school will be shared in the March 5 edition of ACPS Express. We have also created a “Back-to-School Guide for Hybrid Learning” that has pertinent information to set students and families up for success as they transition back to our school buildings with new routines, classroom set-ups and procedures. And this evening, tune in for one of five “Reopening School Buildings FAQ” video sessions that will answer your top questions. The videos will be available in multiple languages and one for students with special needs. Thanks to our community partners and parents who assisted us with creating these.
Please take some time to view and review the information so that when it is your student’s turn to transition into our school buildings, everybody is aware of new routines and expectations.
Every single one of us plays a critical role in the success of reopening ACPS buildings for in-person instructional opportunities. If ever there was a time to pull together as a community, it is now. We are ready, we are prepared, and we are very much looking forward to seeing our staff and students back into our classrooms.
Stay safe, healthy and engaged.
Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr.
Superintendent
