The winners from this year’s Alexandria City PTA Reflections competition who will go on to compete in Northern Virginia were announced this week.
Nineteen entries by ACPS students have advanced to the Northern Virginia District Art contest, where they will compete against student’s artwork from Fairfax, Arlington and Falls Church.
Students submitted artwork to the Reflections art competition in the categories of Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Musical Composition, Photography and Visual Arts.
The artwork was evaluated by judges in each art category for creativity, mastery of the medium and interpretation of the theme, with the latter weighted the most heavily.
The city contest is just one component of the national PTA Reflections program, which begins with contests at the individual school level and progresses to city, region, state and national levels of competition.
The contest winners will be honored at the Alexandria City PTA Reflections Awards Program and Art Show Opening on Friday, March 11, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Durant Arts Center. The program is free and open to the public. The art show will be on display until late May.
