ACPS Students Join Cast to Star in Musical

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has partnered with the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the Alexandria Department of Parks Recreation and Cultural Activities to produce ‘U-Street, The Musical, an original musical that focuses on homelessness in America.

The cast of ‘U-Street, The Musical’, which opens January 29 at the Lee Recreation Center in Alexandria, will be packed with ACPS students and alumni.

Jefferson-Houston Elementary School student Makayla Alford, Maury Elementary School students Janiya Hooks and Danyele Robinson, George Washington Middle School student Tayhana Jackson and T.C. Williams High School alumni Kamen Wilks will be dancers in the ensemble cast of the musical.

Students at T.C. Williams who are part of the leadership development program sponsored by the ACPS Partners in Education Grant will be working backstage during the show.

Alongside the show, students including Zerik Brooks, Amal Bouh, Hader Mohammad, Michael Seegars, Laura Espinoza, Quimari Sawyers, Emy Flores and Sabra Rose, will be conducting a shoe drive to provide shoes to individuals living in homeless shelters in Alexandria.

‘U-Street, The Musical’ was created as a fundraiser to support programming for ACPS students who live in low-income housing in the city and to bring awareness to a variety of social issues relevant to Alexandria.

Tickets for ‘U-Street, The Musical’ can be purchased online. You may also purchase tickets at the door on show dates.
